About

The Thornley Courier is the independent newspaper for Thornley, a former mill town of some nine thousand people set in the Weldale valley. We cover the streets, shops and playing fields that residents actually use, from the market square to the allotments on Foundry Lane.

Our brief is simple and stubborn: report what happens here first, and report it plainly. That means town and parish council decisions, planning applications, school and grassroots sport, roadworks, flooding on the low ground by the river, and the volunteers who keep the place running.

We are read across Thornley itself and the surrounding villages of Netherford, Coldbeck and Little Weldale. If it affects your bin day, your commute, your children’s school or the price of a pint at the summer fete, we think it is worth printing.
